After a somewhat successful debut in English football for Koki Saito during his loan spell at EFL Championship club QPR, the attacking midfielder is likely to be available as a free agent this summer.
QPR Fans Confused
Since Koki Saito's contract has run out, it seemed like common knowledge within the QPR's fanbase that signing Saito would be a no-brainer. However, QPR refused to offer Saito a contract; a move that came as a surprise to the QPR faithful, especially as Saito's positive and high-energy personality propelled him to being a favourite amongst the R's fanbase.
Despite his somewhat lacklustre return of just 3 goals and 3 assists in 39 games for the R's, his movement, tight dribbling, and intensity made him a valuable asset last season, alongside his impressive 39 chances created in as many games; that's a chance a game. He can play anywhere behind the striker, on both wings and as an attacking midfielder. At just 23 years of age, his value isn't exactly low. This then raises the question: where does he go next?
Potential Suitors
The most likely destinations for Koki Saito will be either the German leagues or remaining in England, with one team in particular seemingly creating most headlines as his future team; Championship side Portsmouth FC.

Portsmouth are similar to QPR in the sense that they were Premier League regulars who have found themselves in the Championship, with the ultimate goal of getting back to the promised land of England's top division. Portsmouth finished 16th place in their first season back in the Championship, with goals of staying up once again and possibly pushing for a mid-table finish for the 25-26 season.
A Perfect Fit For Pompey?
As for their playing style under manager John Mousinho, Koki Saito would fit quite nicely into their structure, which employs a high-intensity press and a short-passing focused build-up, utilising Saito's high energy and close control perfectly.
Should Saito join Portsmouth?
Yes
No
Pompey have attacking players such as Josh Murphy, Callum Lang and Colby Bishop; however, they lack a neat attacking midfielder like Saito, who can be a nuisance with or without the ball, using his smart movement to cause mayhem in the box.

With his career at a vital stage, transitioning from young prospect to someone who should be starting for a Championship-level side, there's no doubt that former Yokohama FC player Koki Saito's next transfer is probably the most important one of his career so far.
